Queensland utility Michael Morgan has backed Cowboys teammate Kyle Feldt to step up if he replaces injured winger Dane Gagai in State of Origin game II next week.

Gagai is nursing a quad complaint and is not expected to train until Sunday, just three days before the Origin match at Suncorp Stadium where the Maroons can seal a 10th series win in 11 years.

Feldt blew his chance to play in the Origin series opener in Sydney with a butter-fingered NRL round 11 display for North Queensland but Morgan said the winger was now full of confidence.
