Cooper Cronk is being used as a pawn by Queensland, according to NSW skipper Paul Gallen, as uncertainty continues to surround his fitness for State of Origin I.

Cronk rolled his ankle on Friday at training and Maroons coach Kevin Walters says he must train at Tuesday's session to prove he is right for the series opener at ANZ Stadium on Wednesday.

But Gallen believes it is all a smokescreen, that Cronk will be fit and the Maroons halfback wouldn't appreciate being used in the way he has been.
